How does the menu photo analysis work?
We send your menu photo directly to our AI vision engine. It reads the menu text, identifies individual dishes, infers their typical ingredients using culinary knowledge, and matches those ingredients against our food database to estimate oxalate content.
How accurate are the estimates?
Menu Check provides range estimates (low-high), not exact values, because restaurant recipes vary. Each dish gets a confidence tier (HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW) so you know how much to trust the estimate. We err on the side of caution.
What do the verdict labels mean?
Likely Safe means the dish is estimated under 25mg oxalate. Check Sides means the main dish is likely fine but sides could add risk. High Risk means estimated 100-299mg. Choose Another means estimated 300mg+ and should be avoided.
What is 'Ask Your Server'?
When we detect vague ingredients or inferred high-oxalate items (like spinach-based sides), we generate specific questions to ask your server. This helps you make a more informed choice by clarifying what's actually in the dish.
How many menu checks can I do?
Free users get 3 menu checks per day (separate from barcode scan limits). Premium members get unlimited checks. There's also a manual text entry option if the photo doesn't work.
